Intercamp 2024 - Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland

Intercamp 2024 was our first experience of Intercamp and what an experience. We took 6 young people with us for their First Scouting international experience, and the groups first international experience since 2018.

Flying from Heathrow early Friday morining we all met outside Terminal 3 and took our first group pic before proceeding into the airport. The transit throught the airport went wihtout any problems and we were officialy on our way.

Flying into Prague, (Czech Republic), we met up with our soon to be newest friends 1st Prague British Scouting Overseas, who picked us up from the airport and transported us to the site in Poland which was approximatley a 60min journey.

Not long into the journey we suffered a flat tyre on the trailer so we had to pull over and the term ‘How many Scout Leaders does it take to change a wheel?’ springs to mind. Once this was completed we got back on the road and arrived shortly after at the site.

Arriving slightly later in the day the site was a buzz of activity with thousands already on site. Immediately the uniforms and dress of international scouts from all over Europe and US stood out, and filled me with a real buzz of international pride and a sense of involvement in such a bigger thing.

The weekend continued with this buzz, meeting new international friends, learning more about scouting from across Europe, singing and dancing to Europop and watching a crowd of 2000+ scouts going mental dancing was epic.

The standout moment for me was during the opening ceremony on Saturday morning. Standing there all together as 1 celebrating the differences and yet the commonalities of scouting from all over the world was humbling.

This truly was an outstanding experience and I loved every min of it. And I cant wait to go again next year where it will be held in Germany.

Intercamp 2025 - Baumholder - Germany

For intercamp this year we had an early start on Friday morning, i was up at 0330 in the morning!!! My Dad and i left just before 4am because we were collecting Wayne and Nigel to the airport. When we got to the airport we had a nice group photo out side the terminal. Once we were through security, we looked around at the shops. The flight was the best ever i would say, that British Air is by far the best Airline ( in my opinion). After we had landed in Luxembourg we took a 2 hour ride in a min bus. I think by the end of the drive the driver was fed up of me and my friends to be fair.

My first impression of the camp was that it was hilly kinda cold but it looked quite great (although not much had been put up). Our pitch ( with 1st Prague, 3rd Chandlers ford, 6th Gosport, 1st Maisons-laffitte) was nearly set up apart from the hall. The site was great, but our tent was more bugs than anything, we also shared with some people from Poland.

Best bit was trading i got lots of cool badges from all across Europe and USA. I also camp back with seven neckers. My least favourite part was either the long bus ride or the 10 mile hike. the traveling i understand because we had to get to and from the camp, its not always going to be on our door step! The 10 mile hike I wasn’t so keen on because I’ve never walked that far and it was wet. But the views were amazing and as we were all doing it together we encouraged each other all the way. Plus i got to take photos and pet a cow (called him jerry ),and feel an electric fence! It was SHOCKING!! Haha.

I was honestly amazed by how many scouts were going to be there ( around 2000-3000).Daniel and I kept guessing where about the new scouts were from just by the look when they arrived. We didn’t guess many correct.

All in all it was an amazing weekend and I’m so glad i got to go to Intercamp.
