Do we have many photos of tonight? No! Did we have an absolute blast? Yes!!!
Tonight the Great Alver Chase was delivered to 64 cubs by 30 adults…. As we navigated our way around deepest darkest Lee on Solent
8 bases, 5 teams, and lots of points up for grabs. Who could make the cut? Who could succeed at the challenges? Who trusted the leaders that the rain was going to clear and it would be a fantastic opportunity to burn off the energy they didn’t burn off because of wet play?
It was all to play for as we headed out armed with torches, maps and some hi viz jackets!
A fantastic evening wonderfully planned by volunteer Matt a huge thank you to him, and the incredible adults that came to support
Bases included first aid, memory, fitness, promise challenge, Morse code, knots, and navigation! Phew!
Did the Beavers let the rain put them off today. Absolutely not! A huge well done to them, and the adults for enjoying themselves despite the weather! ... See MoreSee Less
The second of our trips yesterday was New Scientist live!
With a very early start, 29 Scouts set off on a joint mission with 18 Cubs to the excel centre in London for the New Scientist Live 2025 exhibition.
The Scouts went off to explore everything science from robotics, aircraft, farming to how their bodies work. They listen to talks from various speakers with a wide range of topics and engaged in questions. Some of the Scouts particularly liked the VR roller coaster and tractor.
We left the arena a little early so we could do a small spot of sight seeing. We saw London bridge and the river Thames and the Tower of London.
We hopped back on the tube and met back up with the cubs for a macdonalds/burger king dinner before getting the train home.
A Very long and tiring BUT fun day had by all!!
The Cubs write up was
From agriculture with stalls and exhibits on the purpose of tagging cattle and the type of tags they use and the different types of wheat, to lunar landings and coding lunar rovers, to biology, chemistry and physics. Learning about Alzheimer and looking through microscopes of everyday materials down to a cellular level and building molecular compounds with MolyMods (flashbacks to senior school science lessons!). To sitting in a 4/5 replica of a Chinook (full size would fit in through the cargo doors). There was an interactive stall everywhere you looked!
There was something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. I think between the 2 groups of Cubs walking around and exploring we still only managed to cover 60-75% of what was there! ... See MoreSee Less
At Gilwell we took part in Joti and Jota speaking to Scouts across the world from Malaysia, Finland, America, Holland, and got to watch Scouts from Leamington spa talk to the International Space Station! 🚀
As well as that they made LED Christmas Trees, learnt about amateur radio, radio, Raynet, recorded their own weather forecast, tracked planes (hunting for a jet2 holiday!) ✈️
They also made and tested their own aerials (which worked) before an afternoon of climbing and archery!
A fantastic day, looking forward to sharing another write up tomorrow! ... See MoreSee Less
Looks like they had an amazing time. Thank you taking good care of them... Ethan is a little broken tonight from the long day but I am sure he will share plenty tomorrow x
The Scouts built bridges and learnt the need to work as a team, budgets and the impact money can have on us (good and bad). This great work was all to go towards the money Skills badge sponsored by HSBC #SkillsForLife 🌉
Courtney came home and told me all about the activities this evening, she was buzzing. THEN she told me you played sleeping lions and I realised you leaders are geniuses 😂
A late draw this month as ive been really busy, annoying work getting in the way of Scouting.
This months Club 100 draw was number 34. Unfortunately this number was not purchased so no winner this month.
Remember lots of balls remaining so why not head over to team6th.org/club100 and add a few more chances for you to be next months lucky winner of £50.
Please also share this with your friends, family, work colleagues even the postman if you have to. Every purchase directly contributes to providing fun, adventure and skills to the young people.
We are so proud that we are able to support our youngest members in building resilience and confidence by giving them their first experience at a sleepover!
This time it was magic and mini magicians made wands, potions, fruit kebabs, dressed up and practised magic tricks then finished the night with hot chocolate camp songs and a supper of toasted cheese and crackers and toast.
A big well done to all the Squirrels, especially those on their first sleepover and a big thank you to the adults and volunteers that gave up their time, and the young leaders for supporting! ... See MoreSee Less
It was such a fantastic evening, we both enjoyed it so much so thank you!! 🥰🥰🥰 xxx
Thank you so much to all of the adults that helped put this amazing experience together for them. Robin had a fantastic time and she can't wait to do another one. 😃😃
Young leader Charley ran the last 2 evenings on the Scouting top badges. She gave the scouts a whistle stop tour of the exciting adventures she got up to whilst in Malta. She got the scouts (and leaders) involved in a dance she learnt whilst on her adventures.
Lots of Scout investitures this week, Harrison, Courtney, Vincent, Oscar, Ashton and Lucas and even the newest Scout volunteer John joined the fold and donned a shirt and said his Scout promise! Welcome John ... See MoreSee Less
