Today we pay tribute to our volunteers who are serving members and veterans.
Over 1/3 of our young people have parents that are serving, or veterans. We recognise how important the Armed Forces are for the 6th Gosport, Gosport, and the UK.
We are proudly RAF recognised group number 80, and we are grateful for the amazing volunteers the Forces have given us. Here volunteer and serving member of the Royal Navy Sophie, tells us what she thinks about the links between the Scouts and the forces
Today we celebrate Armed Forces Day, a day that means a great deal to me.
I’m incredibly proud to be the 5th generation in my family to serve in His Majesty’s Armed Forces. It’s a legacy I carry with honour and deep respect.
Within the Armed Forces, we are guided by core values such as Courage, Discipline, Respect, Integrity, Loyalty, and Selfless Commitment. These are values that don’t just shape soldiers and sailors, they build strong, compassionate, and resilient individuals.
What’s remarkable is how closely these values align with those found in Scouting. As someone who’s been involved in both, I’ve seen firsthand how Scouting can lay the foundations for future service and leadership.
A powerful example of this connection is AB Jack Cornwell, a Scout who joined the Royal Navy during WW1. At just 16, he displayed incredible bravery at the Battle of Jutland, staying at his post despite being mortally wounded. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions, and his story continues to inspire generations of both Scouts and service members.
There are many Scouts who go on to serve in the Armed Forces, carrying those same values with them throughout their careers. The link between the two is truly something special.
To all those who serve, have served, and will serve. Thank you. Happy Armed Forces Day! ... See MoreSee Less
