Additional Needs

We know if you’ve got a child in your care with additional needs, doing something new can be scary – for both of you! We pride ourselves on our inclusivity and we do our best to make sure all our members can take part. There’s a lot of flexibility within the Scouts programme to meet individual needs.

First steps

At 6th Gosport we really are fully inclusive and already have many children and leaders with additional needs. SO if you are thinking of joining Scouts, get in touch and arrange a chat with us. During the chat we can find out more about your circumstances and needs and establish how we can support you best. This isn’t an interview or screening process, it’s simply to make sure we understand your child’s needs and how we can make adjustments to make sure your child will get the most out of Scouts.

With our new, modern building and grounds we can offer a fully accessible hut and services. Although we do have a disabled toilet, unfortunately we do not have the facilities or the room for a changing table, however space can be provided elsewhere for this to take place.

Our group has personal experiences of disabilities and understand the stresses and worries that come with it. This is why the conversation will just be the start of our ongoing partnership with you as a parent or carer. We also appreciate that things are constantly changing and you’re welcome to speak to us at any time.
