Uniform & Costs

Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the group. Our uniform consists of a sweatshirt or shirt that you can sew badges on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, trousers or shorts.

Official uniform should be purchased from the local district scout shop. This can be found at 28 Alver Rd, Gosport PO12 1QR. As this is run by local volunteers the shops opening times are Saturdays 9.30-1pm and Tuesday’s 4pm-7pm. By purchasing your uniform from here it help support scouting across Gosport. Should you be unable to make it to the local shop you can also purchase items online from www.shop.scouts.org.uk/.

A uniform can be bought from our local Gosport Run Scout Shop. This can be found at 28 Alver Rd, Gosport PO12 1QR. More details and opening times can be found here. If you cant visit the shop directly then you can also purchase uniform items from the Scouts Store Online. If you’re not sure where to start, leaders can give you more information about what to buy. They may even know if someone is selling a uniform second-hand. There are grants available to help you buy a uniform, ask your leader for more details.

Costs

Each group charges a fee (called subscriptions or subs) to cover the costs of the annual membership fee, a group’s running costs, and their regular meetings – which covers venue hire, admin, insurance, and materials for activities. Although many of these costs are annual in nature, to make it more affordable for parents many groups spilt these costs into monthly, termly, or quarterly payments. There are sometimes extra charges for special activities, camps, and events. We try to keep our subs as low as possible so that anyone can come to Scouts. If you need help paying subs, please speak to your Group Scout Leader or District Explorer Scout Commissioner.

Gosport also has a hardship fund that can be drawn upon to enable young people and adult volunteers to participate in Scouting.
